Hi-
I have a very strange situation. After a kernel upgrade, I get a crash if I run alsamixer in urxvt. If I run it in xterm or terminal, or by ssh, then it works. If I *then* run it in urxvt it works, although it pauses for a split second at the moment where it normally crashes. The crash is a heavy one - the machine is not pingable, and doesn't respond to magic sysrq.
I tried deleting /etc/asound.conf and /etc/asound.state, and I don't have any ~/.asoundrc. I can run amixer without a problem.
I'm using kernel 2.6.31 on AMD 64. My alsa-utils version is 1.0.21.
johncc@liberator:~$ cat /proc/asound/modules
0 snd_emu10k1
1 snd_intel8x0
The cards are a Soundblaster Audigy 2 Value, and an onboard nVidia CK804 AC'97.
I managed to get some strace of the crash by remounting / as sync, but I'm not sure how useful it is. To avoid spamming the list with it, it's at http://pastebin.com/m221acd0c
Can anyone suggest where the problem might be?
Thanks in advance.
John

Update! It appears that it's nothing to do with ALSA, but is in fact to do with running ncurses apps in urxvt. vitetris has the same symptoms - crashes the machine in urxvt, works in xterm.
