Botched upgrade - keyboard doesn't work

Hi, I did a system upgrade that caused inittab to get messed up. On boot, I got an error message saying that no inittab file could be found and would not permit me to enter any runlevels. So, I got an Arch cd, and chroot'd into the install partition, and did a 'pacman -S initscripts' according to some other posts on the forum. That's all I did, and was able to to boot into the installed version.

Now, I'm having some issues with the install. I'm not sure if this is because I needed to do more than simply have pacman install initscripts, I don't know. Couldn't get networking started, and had to start X manually, etc etc. But for some strange reason, keyboard presses don't register! There's nothing wrong with the keyboard obviously because I had to enter the commands in the Arch install cd.

I'm at a loss right now - can't fix the configuration if the keyboard doesn't work, right? It's a netbook, so I'm using the hardware keyboard, might getting a hold of a USB keyboard help? Can I still salvage this install? I've always wanted to try Slackware or a Slack derivative but I don't have any time right now to mess around with my computer!
