Strange FaunOS pacman problem

Hello my friends!  I discovered FaunOS recently, and I had it installed on my HD.  I know that is a "sleeping" (or dead?) project, but I like it, really.  I tried to use PacTrac for a system upgrade, but I received some "Forbidden" messages from the console.  I replaced my pacman.conf with a friend's (Arch user).  I tried to upgrade some packages, again.  I had a few results, I can say.  After this, I replaced my mirrorlist with my friend's.  By that time, the pacman console don't want to open!  I  put the button "Install/Upgrade packages", the window opens, I choose the packages, but when I press "Install", nothing happens!:(
What is all about?  Please, help!:/

Re: Strange FaunOS pacman problem

That reminds me of my desktop like 3 yrs ago.

Sorry not very usefull comment.

Try pacman -Ss linux

If that returns packages you have something working.

Have you looked at KDEMod? You could install arch and put KDE3 and then use compiz to do the same thing as what the FaunOS desktop does. Slap on an OS X look alike emerald theme and you're good to go!

Re: Strange FaunOS pacman problem

In using Faunos for upgrades, you are limited in what may be "installed" successfully since the kernel is not up to date and is not expected to be any time soon.

When downloading packages from arch via pacman, the packages are handled in aufs and run in ram...it is probable many of the packages will not run because dependencies are not provided in faunos as it stands.

Perhaps the admin of faunos will recant and return to arch to maintain the system again.

Be aware that the kernel in faunos is customized and  packages likewise.

Pactrac is a customized use of pacman as well and when the system was alive and well was upgraded frequently.  It is therefore limited to existing utility because upgrades have ceased.  A very useful program within faunos.

As of now, the system is rock solid but forums are not useable, having been shut down due to porn attacks.  No upgrades are forthcoming as of this date.

Attempts to install arch elements was successful for some packages but was unpredictable as too which would play.

When using aufs, some packages could be utilized for a session but won't save.

I found one could include all of the depends in the aufs and run a downloaded program if the kernel has the correct items for the program.  If such a program arrangement were saved in a cache flash drive, the program could then be placed in aufs on the next session(s).

It is probable that the present pacman system in archlinux will not play well with faunos due to the use of the older pacman params.  I suspect that cannot be changed unless faunos is revitalized.

I appreciate the faunos system very much and hope for its rejuvenation.

Good luck...........

How do you see that?
Of course, the pacman's terminal problem still exists!
Is there's a way to fix or reinstall PacTrac?
