Ive gotten Arch installed dual booting windows. I was able to get xorg installed and I thought configured. When I do startx the nvidia screen comes up and xterm shows but my keyboard and mouse dont work. I cant switch between screens at that point. Not sure if it is locked up or just not responding to my keyboard commands on that screen. If it makes a difference I am using a Compaq F750us laptop with a USB external mouse. The touchpad mouse doesnt work either. I even went so far as to boot up a Mandriva live cd and copy the xorg.conf to my arch partition. Still with the same result. xf86-input-evdev is installed. Anyone have any suggestions?

A common cause of this problem is not having the hal daemon started. You will also need to install the xf86-input-keyboard, xf86-input-mouse and for the touchpad xf86-input-synaptics.

On all three of my computers I have to do a reboot after installing nvidia-drivers and running nvidia-xconf for x to work. And of course have hal added to deamons.
I am not stupid. I just have bad luck when thinking.

it must have been the daemons, it all works now. Thanks to both of you
