@perry3D if I do not change the PKGBUILD of kernel26-git will it be just like arch kernel?

Catalyst 9.10 package for x86_64, builded on 2.6.31.5-1-ARCH:
http://www.mediafire.com/?wymyn0zgmmu (25.64 MB) md5sum: 7933e945f28f444c44ad94f174c450cd
Both catalyst and catalyst-utils united in 1 package
Install using: pacman -U path_to_package.pkg.tar.gz
Edit:
Same for i686:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dnzmk5zayoz (25.84 MB) md5sum: 79bed6d5556f9327eaefe658ec96dbd8
I haven't tested package for i686, only builded it using arch @ virtual machine, but it should work fine.

I saw today at http://linuxtoday.com/news_story.php3?l … 9-RV-HW-SW that Fedora team has back ported the 3d support for R600/R700 to kernel 2.6.31. Does anyone think in making the same for Arch?
Offline
Just discovered the "back-port" went upstream in 2.6.31.5... So, no need to patch the kernel and only the user-space programs must be the latest versions to have KMS + 3D on R600/700.
Offline
Use kernel26-drm-next and radeon-firmware from AUR. These packages only add the new kernel modules and the the firmware to the kernel. Now, just update libdrm, mesa and your driver (xf86-video-ati) to git and you can enjoy 3D-acceleration.

I reverted to the catalyst way today.
I've lost no love or faith in the open-source way, I just newly had the need for 3D support.
After the catalyst install, my x86_64, Radeon HD 2600 pro, is working fine in 3D, though the 2D is obviously slower than it was when I was using the open-source drivers.
I'm using the current stable .31* kernel, & completely up to date system, with catalyst 9.10. It (thankfully) installed as easy as can be & does the job required.
Bring on the open-source replacement...
Boy I'll have a party on the day that I can dump the miserable AMD/ATi GPU drivers, that's for sure.
If the dev's responsible for freeing me from this closed source nightmare lived closer I would send some of their brain cells to nirvana at my cost.
I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!

Well, this http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=a … 0_3d&num=1 (Open-Source ATI R600/700 3D Support In Fedora 12) looks soo good , does it work so good for you also archers? Kwin works well? Is it stable? I unfortunetly dont have time for testing now... i must have stable enviroment, i remember once i've installed those os driver on 2.6.32 rc1 and my arch just stopped working (installation is easy, i made no mistake, no errors) - some unsolvable udev case - no reinstall/changing packages/configs/kernel/drivers helps... I had to reinstall all system
(...) I would send some of their brain cells to nirvana at my cost.
That sounds awesome!

I prefer updating the drm-modules and not the whole kernel. And Compiz/KWin is working fine and fast.
I have tested two games with kms disabled: QuakeLive and WorldofGoo -> no problems.
Did someone test the catalyst driver with xorg 7.5? Is it working?

How about powersaving features does suspend hibernate work well?
Acer Aspire V5-573P Antergos KDE

I think powersaving is not as good as powersaving with the catalyst driver. I didn't test suspend.
But for me that doesn't matter because i have a desktop system.

I had forgotten that I had to disable experimental KMS and fall back to the old behavior. By adding "radeon.modeset=0" into the kernel append line in /boot/grub/menu.lst .
I'll see what happens when I enable KMS before too long. ?
My knowledge is too skinny to know whether it is a forgone conclusion or not after having changed from open to the closed drivers.

I will test it in about hour, hope that xorg packages from testing repo are enought, but tell me does that os driver works with that xorg 7.5?
Edit: catalyst 9.10 does NOT work with xorg 7.5 at all

The os driver is part of the xorg package, isn't it?

Anybody get to work Catalyst and Xorg Server 1.7 to work? I need 3d and now I am using Open Source drivers but it provides 2d only whereas GIT packages does not work for me at all.
Offline
AFAIK support for xorg 1.7 on catalyst driver wont occur for months, nobody knows in what time we will see it...
Also there is no patch for catalyst 9.10 or any other catalyst.
There will be no release of supported (by catalyst) linux dristros in some amount of time...
Only Fedora 12 will officialy have xorg 1.7, but fedora is also unsupported distro
!!! If you are using catalyst and you decide to update all packages (standard pacman -Syu), you will suffer on non-screen-serious-radiation sickness, cuz xorg 1.7 was putted to extra repository !!! Unfortunetly this is not a curse... this is true.
Heres a list of packages i decide to ignore with updates (edit /etc/pacman.conf), cuz of belonging to xorg 1.7:
http://hpaste.org/fastcgi/hpaste.fcgi/v … 386#a11386
(backslashes there means new line, you should remove them before pasting it to pacman.conf)
I have tried with IgnoreGroup, but without success, maybe im too stupid for this (lots of packages is not signed to any group).
As you can see the list is long, but im sure its not complete, and could be other for you (xorg is modular).
Also there can be some mistakes - i picked up some packages only cuz of presence of "x" letter in name of package or "freedesktop.org" phrase in package description ;P
If anybody wanna help - add / remove some packages - please modify it here:
http://hpaste.org/fastcgi/hpaste.fcgi/v … 386#a11386 (url repeated intentionally)
and leave short message about such modify (Like: "LOL anti-radiation update!") here on forum
Im sure it will help us all
Thanks

I'm getting the following error when I select your links ViOLO:

Also, a (dumb) question - we can't just ignore xorg in pacman.conf?

omg! the whole hpaste is locked, maybe its temporary, maintance etc...
I will paste it here then (but hope hpaste will up, their modify function is great!):

this wont block update of xorg related packages, even xorg-server will update
also adding this to IgnoreGroup wont help...
Since xorg 1.7 is out everything will be written for it, new packages of X software will depend on this new xorg packages, if ati wont support xorg 1.7 as fast as they can - who knows what dependency hell we will have to pass!

ViOLO: I added your list to pacman.conf & did an -Syu which after the list of blocked packages says the following, which I expect I don't have to worry about, but I would certainly like a confirmation on that?
resolving dependencies...

Actually... you need those files? Looks like you forget to remove them before installing catalyst, cuz these files belongs to open sorce ati drivers. You can ignore them all, or maybe even remove them, except libxxf86vm - im not sure about it.
But ok, i have putted them all to hpaste ignore list

I'll leave them in, if this catalyst lot starts to irritate me or cause me trouble I'll just go back to the open-source alternative & if I want to play a game I'll set up for it on No.2. box.
Thanks for your reply & your help on this problem ViOLO.
