kernel panic after installing new video card?

I put a new video card in my machine to replace the onboard video card.  The new video card works but the OS will not completely initialize.  I get errors right after the modules start to load.  The initialization stops and I never get to the command prompt.  No information is written to the logs either.  Some of the errors look like file system corruption, but the file system is fine.  And if I switch back to the onboard video card the OS boots again without errors.

What do I need to do to fix this?  I figured the OS would boot fine to give me a command prompt where I would install the new video drivers and then reconfigure Xorg.conf.  But is there more I need to do?  The new video card is an Nvidia GeForce 4 MX 4000.  The onboard is an Intel.

P.S.  I can boot a live CD (System Rescue CD) and use X from it fine.  And I can mount my hard disk from it and access the files on it fine.

The System Rescue live CD works but I tried an Ubuntu live CD, a Knoppix Live CD, and Arch live CD and they do not work.

Oh well.  My computer is just screwed.  I'm tired of dealing with it so I'm going to trash it.  Office Space style.

If you haven't trash your conputer yet try blacklisting agpgart and intel_agp in /etc/modprobe.d/. It fixed my machine!
