Hi
I have a WMV file whose video I can't play in MPlayer or VLC.
- Here's the error from MPlayer:
Opening video decoder: [dmo] DMO video codecs
Win32 LoadLibrary failed to load: wvc1dmod.dll, /usr/lib/codecs/wvc1dmod.dll, /usr/lib/win32/wvc1dmod.dll, /usr/local/lib/win32/wvc1dmod.dll
IMediaObject ERROR: 0x897b78c could not open DMO DLL (0x0 : 0)
Failed to create DMO filter
ERROR: Could not open required DirectShow codec wvc1dmod.dll.
You need to upgrade/install the binary codecs package.
Go to http://www.mplayerhq.hu/dload.html
VDecoder init failed
Opening video decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family
Selected video codec: [ffvc1] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg WVC1)
Any ideas?

If you're running i686 , Do you have the package "codecs" installed ?
It's in the AUR .

I have i686, but I don't think I have "codecs" installed. I'm using yaourt (tupac) for my AUR stuff, but for some reason neither of them will search the AUR anymore. It's been like this for quite some time and I haven't been able to figure it out.
EDIT:
Solved the yaourt problem by uncommenting this line in /etc/yaourtrc:
SearchInAurUnsupported yes

aren't some wmv files encrypted? I seem to remember reading somewhere that only the m$ mediaplayer v11 can play some of them.

Installing codecs from AUR helped, thanks.
