Install Problem

I tried to run

aif -p automatic -c /usr/share/aif/examples/generic-install-on-sda

and I got some error so I can aif interactively. It said it finished fine but when I rebooted I got a message something like

The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem
If the device is valid and it really contains ext2 then the superblock is corrupt"

Please run efsck -b <block> <device>

I rebooted a few times but no good.

So then I booted fresh from USB and tried

aif -p automatic -c /usr/share/aif/examples/generic-install-on-sda

again just for kicks. This time it ran. But eventually it died on something like:

probing devices to guess BIOS drives
end_request: ie error, dev fd0, sector 0
Buffer I/O Error on device fd0, logical block 0

The errors just keep going and going.

So I killed it and ran it again and now I get:

Error partitioning /dev/sda (see /dev/tty7 for details)
ERROR: Could not process_disks

I see in tty7 that the disk is in use. So I gave it one more try. I rebooted from USB and ran aif automatic again. I got the same result as the first time-- I/O errors.

Is my hard disk doomed? sad

How do I install?

Re: Install Problem

I got it to work.

I created a small partition at the beginning of the disk which I don't use--no mount point.

After that I made my partitions, put GRUB in MBR and all is well. smile
