pacman sync slooooow :/

whenever i use pacamn -Sy packagename it takes forever to sync with the database.

then eventually i will get something like this ...

core is up to date
error: failed retrieving file 'extra.db.tar.gz' from mirror.pacific.net.au : Protocol error
...


how do i fix this?

you need to change your mirror
/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Make sure to choose a mirror near you geographically. That can in fact make a difference.

i slected a new mirror and followed the wiki guide on improving pacman performance now my speeds are blazing smile

Note this mirror has not been updated since August; you should avoid it anyway.

You can also use the python script rankmirrors to get the best performance out of your locally geographical mirrors.
