I can make my external hdd (USB) go to sleep manually by doing a
[lynix@andromeda ~]$ sudo hdparm -y /dev/sdc
/dev/sdc:
issuing standby command
[lynix@andromeda ~]$
without any problems. But when I set a spindown time with "hdparm -S"
the drive ignores it.
I know this spindown-thing is a bit complicated on external drives as the
external controller must support it, but in my case it supports "-y", so why
not "-S"?
Does anyone know a workaround for this problem? E.g. a daemon that
monitors access to the drive and invokes "hdparm -y" after a specified
period of idle time?
Kind regards,
lynix
