splashimage

has anyone else had trouble getting their splashimage in grub to work? Ive tried several different pics all xpm.gz @640x480 but nothing works. I put the pic in /boot/grub/. My menu.lst is:
splashimage=/boot/grub/linuxinside.xpm.gz
-is there something more I have to do or is this wrong?

Re: splashimage

splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
you have to tell it which drive to look on. I believe the /boot/ part is left off, because grub always acts upon the basis that boot is the root dir.
someone correct me if i am wrong.

Re: splashimage

I mean if 0,0 is supposed to point to were the root partition is, for me that would be 0,5 which I've tried several different ways (including and excluding /boot).0,0 for me would point to my windows partion. I believe grub is installed on 0,1. Either way i've tried every one of them-is their maybe a setup in grub for this or an extraction package for grub?

Re: splashimage

the (hd0,0) is first hard drive, first partition. That is where the boot partition on my system lives.
If you had five paritionts (hda1 through hda5), and hda5 was the partition with /boot on it, you would use (hd0,4). If your /boot partition was on hdb3, for example, you would use (hd1,2).

Re: splashimage

AFAIK, grub needs to be patched in order to support splash.  Here's more info. It seems there is no patch for 0.96 yet.

Cheers,
