I have Intel 4965AGN for which firmware is requested successfully:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
iwlagn 0000:03:00.0: firmware: requesting iwlwifi-4965-2.ucode
iwlagn 0000:03:00.0: loaded firmware version 228.61.2.24
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
For symbol, I downloaded the firmware bins symbol_sp24t_prim_fw, symbol_sp24t_sec_fw and copied them over to /lib/firmware but they are not loaded:

I wanted to add: above problem occurs with both 2.6.30-ARCH 2.6.31.5 (vanilla) kernels.
I also tried placing the firmware files in /etc/wlan, and later tweaking /etc/pcmcia/*confs without any luck.
