Searching for l337 VIM videos

OK.  I think I am going to get in trouble / moved for posting this here but the programming forums seemed the most likely place to get a response.  I work as a coder, and use VIM all day.  Sometimes I just blow my own mind with how fast I can zoom around and transform an entire file (or multiple files).  And I've only been vimming for < 1 year.  So I thought to myself during a break at work: "Wow, I bet those VIM masters who Have been vimming since before VIM had an M can throw down some SERIOUSLY rapid VIM action, I wanna check it out."  And so I googled "amazing vim videos" and "l337 vim videos" and was totally disappointed.  Has anyone ever seen a totally l337 vim video?  If so you should post it, if not you should make it, then post it tongue

P.S.  No intent to start an editor war, I'd be (almost) just as stoked to see a totally l337 Emacs video or whatever other editor video smile

Not sure if this is exactly what you want, but this is a good video from Bram / google tech talks (I found it useful):

The above link is a good start, but wtf is a "l337" VIM video? VIM (as any Linux application) comes with documentation. Read it.

Re: Searching for l337 VIM videos

I'd like to say, also as a big vim fanboy, that I agree. Vim is a well built tool for efficient text editing.  but at the same time I highly doubt you are going to find any "l337 H4x0R" videos of vim like the ones you see for compiz and the like.  mostly because using vim may be fun and exciting, but watching someone else use vim, no matter how elite, really isn't.  It's like playing chess vs. watching someone play chess.   However, I commend your enthusiasm and encourage you to keep working on your vim skills. and if one day you're all like "whoa! look at me go!"  put a screen cast on youtube or something.

p.s.  instead of "l337" (because most vim users aren't 12 year old hacker wannabes.) try searching for VIM video tutorial or vim tricks video,  I've already found some pretty good results

The guy behind werkzeug has a screencast of him using vim to create a 30 minute wiki.  He flies but doesn't do anything too fancy.

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

Why not you post a l33t vim video? I want to see how much an average vim user can do.

Re: Searching for l337 VIM videos

While looking for something totally different I just came across these videos, only checked out the teaster (wasn't impressed — no match for my vimfoo wink).

Anyway just thought I'd share.

Edit: Oh and ttyshare may have something (I don't have time to watch people typing).

Sorry to offend.  I have read much of the vim documentation, and a lot of tutorials, and I've played around a lot as well.  I was not looking for a big old command/macro/this is what vim does.  I am very grateful that VIM does (as a reasonably high %age of Linux applications do) come with documentation.  I was thinking more speed-of-use, you know, the same way you'd be impressed if someone dealt cards 10x faster than you can or played your favorite video game at a level you can't even imagine.

Heheh nice, downloading it now!

Looks... educational tongue  Not the FAST PACED VIM ACTION I was hoping for though wink

Heheh ya, I used more intelligent search words on google.  But I mean, if I'm gonna go onto a forum and request videos of speed-editing I'm dropping all pretenses of making an intelligent request tongue  Also I think "whoah look at me go" all the time in vim.  Funny though, like any muscle-memory task ( I think making editing into a muscle memory task is a big part of why VIM is so powerful) sometimes the muscle part outruns the brain and terrible things start happening in my editor.  Thank god for undo, and curse capslock!

Heheh thanks for humoring me guys, do come back if you stumble upon an amazing video, b/c as much as you may think watching people type is boring I know some days you guys are as bored at work as I was when I made this topic smile

Re: Searching for l337 VIM videos

When reading the subject I thought about the tilte of this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCiVCiku3cM. However one of the reponses, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQAd41VA … onse_watch, is certainly more impressive for me.

It would be really cool to have something like this in vim. Not necessarily the spreadsheet function, which is also nice, but mainly the autoformatting of tables.

I can recommend ShowMeDo. There are not only videos about many programming languages but about vim, too: Vim Videos, Tutorials and Screencasts.
