Hi,
I installed mplayer-plugin from aur few weeks back. But today whrn I was updating using yaourt I saw not found in aur and I cannot find the package in manual search also.
Any idea why it was removed from aur?
Thanks

It's in [extra] now... but it's deprecated. Use gecko-mediaplayer, it's from the same author and much better.

I cannot find mplayer-plugin in extra either. How different is gecko-mediaplayer from mplayer-plugin. it requires gnome-mplayer and mplayer-plugin didnt need that. Is the interface for gecko-mediaplayer different from mplayer-plugin?
Thanks

It looks a bit more modern, but it's pretty much the same minimalistic approach. You should definitely update, there are many videos (particularly on the Apple page) that won't work with mplayer-plugin anymore. Gecko-mediaplayer though, is updated to handle them.

I installed it looks better than mplayer-plugin. How will we know in aur when some package changes like this occurs?
Thanks

damn, so i have to install 'xulrunner' and gnome dependency now, :^(
(..if abs'in)
p.s.
it crashes with apple trailers (dbus errors)
its weird that mplayer-plugin for me just worked very nicely, shame its gone.

Shame indeed - shouldn't be gnome-mplayer optional dependency? I don't want anything gnome on my system, or cluttering kmenu with useless stuff

Mplayer-plugin worked fine with opera. Gecko-mediaplayer does not.
The video window does not even appear...
PS: opera:plugins shows:
mplayerplug-in is now gecko-mediaplayer 0.9.8
and the plugins are recognized, but they simply don't work.
PPS: Tested it here http://plus7.arte.tv/de/1697660,CmC=291 … 87302.html

The control bar also stays on top, I dunno how to get rid of it I no longer have the mplayer-plugin binary. Is there a place we can get the pkgbuild. Or better, is it possible to have it back in AUR?

No, not only.
You can choose between winmedia and flash.
Go to "Meine Videoeinstellungen" and choose windows media.

pretty anal but, this is how I use this 'new' plugin.
ABS 'gnome-mplayer' thus;
depends=('mplayer')
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc \
--disable-schemas-install --without-gconf \
\
--disable-nautilus \
--without-libnotify \
--without-libgpod \
--without-libmusicbrainz3 \
--without-flat-volume \
--without-gpm-new-method \
--without-gpm-old-method
then I install 'gecko-mediaplayer'
then I run firefox with ' firefox ; killall dbus-launch'
hehe
