I just installed the Base System 0.7.
I then followed the instructions for installing XOrg that were on the Wiki.
When I startx, the system locks.
Thinking this due to my not having installed a desktop/WM, I installed Windowmaker. Same problem.
Symptoms include running startx, seeing some text & then the screen blacks out. I cannot change to another tty screen (ctrl+alt_F? do nothing).
I have an AMD 2800 and an nVidea FX 5200 w/128M RAM.

in your xorg.conf file, what does it list as your mosue device? there is a common problem with X freezing if the mouse isn't correct (go figure?)... it should probably be /dev/input/mice

As I have a USB Wheel Mouse, I put in the following (as per the Wiki)
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

Try /dev/input/mouse0 instead of /dev/input/mice.

Try /dev/input/mouse0 instead of /dev/input/mice.

Now that I have come home, I see that I became confused at the ungrammatical nature of the command. I had "/dev/input/mouse". I added a 0 & it ran, but the mouse did not work. Putting in "mice" allowed the mouse to work.
Thank you for your help & to everyone.

for the record, "mice" is a combination of all mice on your system... I can hook up 30 mice and they'll all move the same pointer... however, the numbered "mouseX" is each individual mouse... if you have a ps2 port, it is most likelt mouse0 - so mouse1 may have worked if we're talking USB.
I always use "mice"
