Hey there. I recently got a new widescreen monitor. It's a samsung Syncmaster 943BWX, and I am having some trouble
getting the best picture quality out of it. It's native res is 1440x900, and I've got the resolution settings correct but the monitor
config in the xorg.conf still shows what I suspect was the old dell monitor config.
I've ran Xorg -configure to re-create a new xorg file and it doesn't detect the monitor. I've also checked the V-sync and H-Sync ranges in the xorg.conf file and they seem to be ok. The monitor just doesn't look that crisp...
Any help would be appreciated.
J
..... I just ended up dropping a new video card in with DVI and bam.... Looks perfect automagically now. -Thanks Everyone!

Ouput of xrandr? (Just to be sure you're getting the correct resolution and not a stretched image of another resolution.)
Also, out of curiosity, what video card do you have?

Thanks for repsonding. This is driving me nuts. I can't seem to get it dialed in just right. It's fuzzy and off the screen. If I press the auto adjust button on the monitor it just makes it worse....

Sounds like you need to play with Coarse, Fine and Sharpness in the monitor menu.
Offline
I've played with that quite a bit and it still looks like crap. Is that because I am plugged in with analog and not the DVI? Will that make any difference?
Offline
Pretty sure coarse + fine adjustments are analog connection only. My old monitor which had dvi + vga connections was great on dvi and terrible on vga no matter how much I tweaked.
I'd try the dvi connection and see if magically fixes everything.
Offline
Hmm... My pc doesn't have DVI, but I can probably get another video card for it. I'll give that a shot.
Thanks for the help.
