I really don't know what to do anymore, I've tried to use the propartairy drivers but they don't work, I'm currently stuck with a 1024x768 resolution, the laptop can do 1368x768.
I tried to modify the xorg.conf file adding the resolution by hand but still nothing. Any ideas how to fix it?

Are you talking about the "dell xps m1330" in your sig? That screen is 1280x800.
My HP6735s uses the HD3200. Tha laptop screen is 1280x800.
External Display:
It has no HDMI but when I attach to my 42 inch HD TV using VGA the xf86-video-ati driver reports the TV connected at 1360x768 but, the when the TV switches mode "1024x768" get displayed on the TV briefly. If I select 1366x768 in xrandr The TV switches mode and displays "1280x768" which is good enough for HD.

Oh, OK. In that case check through /var/log/Xorg.0.log and look for similar resolutions to try. The xorg ati driver and/or my TV have a mismatch and maybe your screen suffers from the same problem.
To recap my history:
Xrandr reported my TV as 1360x768 but the TV says it is 1024x768 (and that's what it looks like). Setting the screen to 1360x765 in xrandr caused the TV to switch to 1280x768.
I updated the Xorg driver yesterday and watched a film this evening, I had a similar problem but this time no 1360x765 mode was available in xrandr, instead an option for 1366x765 was available, so selecting this caused my TV to jump to 1280x768".

I dont seem to have the 1366x768 resolution in options after the xrandr command
Screen 0: minimum 800 x 600, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768
default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm
1024x768 61.0*
800x600 61.0
this is the output i have and i cant change the resolution with the -s option
Size 1366x768 not found in available modes
how to add the resolution??

That looks like you're running vesa rather than xf86-video-ati or xf86-video-radeonhd
Here is the output from xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1360 x 800, maximum 1366 x 1366
VGA-0 connected 1360x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 697mm x 392mm
1360x768 60.0*+
1366x768 59.8
1024x768 75.0 70.1 60.0
800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
640x480 75.0 72.8 59.9
LVDS connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 331mm x 207mm
1280x800 60.0*+
1280x720 59.9
1152x768 59.8
1024x768 59.9
800x600 59.9
640x480 59.4
So using the names from that (VGA-0 = my TV and LVDS = my laptop screen), here is my Xorg.conf using the radeonhd driver
