What are people using for printing?

Its just that I have just had a look at CUPS and it seems to only have 244 print drivers and they are either sharp or HP.

So how do people print?

Does any one use an inkjet?

Does anyone use Epson or Lexmark?

I use CUPS, with a HP inkjet printer. I think a significant number of printer drivers are missing from the default setup (I couldn't find hpjis).

I use CUPS for my HP DeskJet 840C. Don't know why, when I still used Gentoo I installed it with the help of their guide and it worked.

The quality in Windows was better tho, with CUPS the page doesn't seem to be aligned right.

What else can I use to print? Can I use it together with CUPS so I can choose which printmanager to use?

So far I used ghostscript+hpijs directly for my HP printer, but I'm considering to switch to something easier to use. Is CUPS really good? Is it easy to setup?

I use my old epson epl 3000 laser printer, solid as a rock. It is attached to a small network device. I run cups, and the hp4l drivers. Quality is much better then I have ever seen since I used OS/2, BeOS, Windows.

i use the old laser from my parents ... an old hp lj that works excellent with cups ... works great for texts ...

unfortunately, colour laser printers for linux are expensive (in buying the machine AND in running costs)

I didn't know CUPS is so simple to use. I just did "prt-get depinst cups", started cups daemon, went to cups administration web page and configured the printer. It took me less than 5 minutes!

No more using custom scripts filtering postscript with ghostscript&hpijs and sending it to /dev/lp0!

Substitute "pacman -S cups" for "prt-get depinst cups" if you really want. There are really not so many differences between CRUX and Arch. It is just a matter of taste - use Arch if you want effortless package upgrades or use CRUX if you want to have a sense of full control over your system.
It's true Arch has the best forum I've seen. CRUX doesn't have anything like that. But the information here is just as useful for a CRUX user as it is for an Arch user.
By the way, you should be happy that I'm using CRUX because this way I won't complain in these forums about Arch's deficiences.
