abcde - can't tag m4a or mp3 tracks

abcde can't seem to tag tracks that are encoded as m4a. I thought this used to work, but I haven't used it in a long time. Still works great for mp3/flac.

Errors such as this:

tagtrack-m4a-06: returned code 126: nice -n 10 /home/firecat53/abcde.8c0fdb0a/track06.m4a --artist J. K. Rowling --album Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - Disc 1 --title Chapter 2A - Spinner's End --tracknum 06 --year 2005 --genre Audiobook --compilation false --comment Read by Jim Dale --output /home/firecat53/abcde.8c0fdb0a/track06.m4a-atomic

I browsed the source a bit and it referred to atomicparsely, which I've never had installed and isn't listed as a dependency. I tried installing it from AUR, but it wouldn't compile. There was a link to a 686 package that someone else compiled using an older gcc, but I'm on x86_64.

Any ideas or alternate all-in-one CLI cd ripper/tagger/encoder? It seems as if abcde isn't maintained anymore by the author.

Thanks,
Scott

Edit: 11/7/09  Well, now it won't tag mp3's either. Only flac.

Neither rubyripper or grip (ok, at least according to their respective websites) support m4a/aac. abcde works great for mp3 & flac!

Well, now abcde won't tag my mp3 files either! Flac works fine. I've reinstalled and checked the entries in .abcde.conf to make sure there were no changes.

Any other ideas for either fixing abcde or an alternative cli ripper/tagger?

Thanks,
Scott

I had issues with abcde tagging mp3s as well.  The patch on the following debian bug report resolved the issue for me:

Re: abcde - can't tag m4a or mp3 tracks

@ervandew - thanks that patch fixed it. I tried a patch from there that was supposed to fix m4a tagging, but it didn't work. Anyone care to take a stab at fixing the m4a tagging problem?

Thanks,
Scott
