Archlinux wont boot

Hello,
I installed the i686 version on an empty harddrive and did everything right( i hope) and then when i go to boot it the bootloader shows up and asks me if i want archlinux or archlinux fallback, then when i select archlinux the screen just goes black and nothing happens...

Re: Archlinux wont boot

goes black? No error mesage? try the fallback image. Also tell us about your partitions and where you installed grub. Btw it's i686 version and not i868...

EDIT: You shouldn't sleep while installing Arch, you should keep your eyes open all the time O__O

Re: Archlinux wont boot

i tried the fallback image, it just does the same thing then reboots, i have the partitions setup the way the installer recommended and i installed the bootloader on the first partition like /dev/sd1 or something (the one it said was the boot partition).  its probably some dumb mistake i made. . .

Re: Archlinux wont boot

You should always install bootloader in MBR ie. /dev/sda in your case

Re: Archlinux wont boot

Is this just after the initial installation? I.e. you finished the installation, reboot, take out the CD and *then* this happened?
If you are having an ATI graphics card, try adding 'nomodeset' to the kernel line in grub:
At the grub prompt, hit 'e' for edit, then go to the line that starts with 'kernel', hit 'e' again, go to the end of the line and add 'nomodeset'. Then hit 'return' and 'b' for boot. (I hope that is correct - I'm typing this from memory).

Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.

Just put it in your /boot/grub/menu.lst
