Well, a userstyle. I use the style capabilities vimperator has, instead of installing yet another plugin to manage them. I use this sheet:

Been a while since I posted a screeny..
I've moved from kde3 to gnome, and have been using more CLI apps as of late

Very nice. Can you share your xmonad.hs?
BTW are you using two instances of dzen2 or some kind of multiplexer for bottom and top bars?

As Lich has already said its urxvt tabs

Just add the following to .Xdefaults

urxvt*perl-ext-common:  default,matcher,tabbed

!tab colors
URxvt.tabbed.tabbar-fg: 8
URxvt.tabbed.tabbar-bg: -1
URxvt.tabbed.tab-fg: 1
URxvt.tabbed.tab-bg: -1

So that's how you get a transparent tab bar!

I've gotten to prefer tmux to terminal tabs, but this used to bug me when I used tabbed urxvt.

Cool. I had no idea that was a feature of urxvt. Not sure I will use it but am playing with it at the moment. Think I need to read up on urxvt.
