Server lockups

I"ve been trying for three days to get my Arch64 system to not lock up. It started after a *major* update (500+MB of downloads, including 2.6.31 kernel) and I'm running out of thoughts.
System is an AMD 718G chipset with Athlon 64cpu, onboard graphics, 4GB RAM, 2 pchdtv 3000 tuners (cx88 chipset I believe), and nothing else noteable.

I thought it was the kernel or myth. It typically locks up when I start the mythbackend. I'm unable to even ping the system over the network, and hadn't seen anything in the mythbackend logs.

Today I noticed it locked up without running myth, and found serieses of ^@^@^@^@^@^@ in the errors.log file occuring between the lockup and the start of the fresh boot. I've downgraded to 2.6.30 with no change and tried the mythtv-fixes from the AUR with no change in results. I'm at a loss since the hardware tests out fine.

Any ideas?

Re: Server lockups

Perhaps this has something to do with it too (from /var/log/errors.log)

Re: Server lockups

Well...I never figured out exactly why the system was locking up. I ended up swapping the boot drive (I wanted the bigger one anyways) and reloading the system from scratch.

Good news...system doesn't lock up on it's own now.
Bad news...When I start mythbackend, it still locks up completely.
