After latest kernel and xorg upgrades I could sort out most problems and get X working again , but OpenGL remained broken, this was the error:
glxinfo: main/context.c:640: check_context_limits: Assertion `ctx->Const.MaxTextureCoordUnits <= ctx->Const.MaxTextureImageUnits' failed.
After some googling I found the cause of it (actually someone else found it, I am only reporting: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … ug/342620), a simple configuration file incompatibility. After deleting the file '.drirc' in my home directory OpenGL seems to work again.

Could you say what you did ? After the last update I can't use the radeon driver and I have some problems with vesa.
When I start X my display is divided in two parts and one of those part is again divided in two. In the upper part
I see two times the login screen with funny colors but I can do nothing, because the display is too small.

Sorry, don't remember what exactly I did to avoid the X crash, but a good starting point for you maybe would be to follow the Wiki and disable KMS completely and start X without an xorg.conf (rename your old one).

I followed your recommandation and it works now and KMS is enabled. I think the main problem was in the xorg.conf. After deleting it
everything is alright.
Thank you for the help!!
