blank cdr and dvdr not being "detected"

I can insert a DVD or CD with data on it, But when I put in a cd/dvd with nothing on it none of my burning applications detect that its in there. Also, nothing in thunar is shown about it. I have not been able to find anything on the forums about this.

Afaik its normal for Thunar not to show blank media. BTW which burning applications did you try?

Re: blank cdr and dvdr not being "detected"

same happens to me, after having some problems to start brasero: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=84244

this is the output of dmesg. I guess it shouldn't be an error as I inserted a blank CD:

cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=0x00 driverbyte=0x08
sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : 0x5 [current]
sr 3:0:0:0: [sr0] ASC=0x21 ASCQ=0x0
end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0

Recently brasero has been updated, I don't know if it has to do with this issue. Now I'm using brasero-lite package from AUR but with not success. I'll try XFburn...

You may want to give cdrtools (the one from aur) a try.

My guess is that you have cdrkit installed and for some people it doesn't seem to work very well.

I had the same Problems with Brasero. However gnome-baker works flawlessly if I mount the disc in pcmanfm before burning.

Re: blank cdr and dvdr not being "detected"

I had the same problem with Brasero after doing an Syu a few days ago, I found the 2.28 versions weren't detecting my blank media and so I went back to a 2.26 version that I previously had and now it works again.  I wasn't able to find anything on the new version that changed that had made the issue so for now I'll just stick with the older version.
