lesspipe rar garbage output

I installed lesspipe as recommended on the post installation tips and it works fine unless I try to look at a rar file which gives me loads of garbage output along with the filenames.

The garbage seems to be related to the content of the files in the archive.

test.rarcontains one file called "file" which simple contains the text "this is a file".

less test.rar

gives

==> append : to filename to view the  RAR archive data, v1d, os: Unix source

less doesn't work on archives, nor would less help you with a *.png file, even if it were extracted from the archive.

Thanks for trying to help lamegatop but i have installed lesspipe which allows me to peek inside archives.
