Re: Show off your XFCE desktop!

I use e17 now, but here's my XFCE desktop.
I'm using compiz-fusion with the NOX XFCE theme and
the Blue Satin emerald theme. Dual 22" monitors.

Also, pogeymanz, what's that bar on the right of your desktop?
Looks cool, wouldn't mind replacing my panel widgets with it.

XFCE like it should be: Minimal, clean, fast, ugly. Just like the thinkpad I'm running it on :3

An ugly ThinkPad??? Which model? I find it very hard to believe that there is an ugly ThinkPad out there. OK, maybe the SL series, but still...

x61, thinkpads are ugly, just like my desktop. But it still looks kind of good in another way. Like something being blue and red at the same time XD

Re: Show off your XFCE desktop!

I own a T61p and I really like the way it looks. I guess Thinkpad's look good only to dedicated Thinkpad lovers. I can see why they might look ugly to most people, though.

Re: Show off your XFCE desktop!

The thing with thinkpads and desktops is that you can't have like a flashy kde4 desktop, it's just wrong. Same as the windows classic theme looks alot better on a thinkpad than on a macbook air for instance.

Re: Show off your XFCE desktop!

I completely disagree.  I was running KDEmod on my T61, but just switched back to Xfce because I missed the right-click app menu.  I think the Thinkpad is a classic hallmark design in its field, like the Ford Mustang is to pony cars or the AK-47 is to semi-automatic weapons.  The design is always going to be the same, with a lot of small refinements from year to year.  Lots of shiny new laptops come and go, but you already know what Thinkpad will generally look like 5 years from now.  Meanwhile, today's sleek systems will look as stupid as the clamshell Macs and the original iMac look today.

Re: Show off your XFCE desktop!

Well said fx4, though Lenovo seems determined to destroy the ThinkPad brand with stuff like SL series, ThinkPad netbook, x100e and the horrific Thinkpad Edge line (which features red or white colors!!!).

Conky: Custom (original was from somewhere, long ago)
.gtkrc is altered for transparent desktop icon labels.
Rest is same with my post above.

Nice! May I ask 2 questions?

1. Could I have your conky setup?

2. What file-manager is that?

Thanks!

1. Yep, here it is: http://www.2shared.com/file/9400662/993 … kytar.html

It has dependencies though. You'll need perl, hddtemp, nvidia binary driver and the Myriad Web Pro font (commercial). Other stuff are included in the archive.

The script automatically checks whether eth0 or wlan0 is used and monitors whichever is active. Enjoy smile

2. It's thunar smile

First time posting in the Arch Linux forum big_smile
Just started using Arch Linux since a few weeks, after using Ubuntu for a few years. So far, I don't regret a single bit of the distro switch!
