Hosting Sites...

I'm looking for a good reliable hosting site, one that doesn't do any tricky CAPTCHAs, complicated URLs, and has a decent max upload size. One that also does not delete my stuff after it gets too old. So it would allow me to use it as a Pacman repo.

And if possible be "free". Is there anything like this available?

Re: Hosting Sites...

There's no way in hell you'll be able to grab a free hosting service that's powerful enough to be an Arch mirror, sorry tongue

Such a host will cost quite a bit.

Re: Hosting Sites...

Here are some hosting sites you might want to check out:

Linode
Slicehost
Prgmr
NearlyFreeSpeech

Edit: What do you mean by "free"?  I thought you meant total access to the server.  If you are looking for an extremely cheap solution, these aren't for the job.

I use 000webhost.com.  You only get ftp upload access so you need to create your repo locally and upload it but the price is right...

What is their quality of service like? I have to say to see all of that offered for free is really rare. You probably could use that as a small repository.

What are you looking to accomplish? I have a vps with ample disk space and bandwidth and I wouldn't mind giving you some hosting. You can checkout my server specs at http://vps1.georgemh.com/3rdparty/phpsysinfo/

I rent the VPS from http://www.ramhost.us/ I must really recommend this guy as he supports Arch and has VPS plans starting at $2.99 a month, with a decent control panel and good support as well.

It is OK...  I have never had issues with my site being down that I know of.   100GB per month at reasonable speed and you get 1.5GB to host..  There are annoyances.  Your only access to the site is via ftp and you can only upload one file at a time.  Hosting a git repo is nearly impossible.   But for free, I really can not complain.

Re: Hosting Sites...

I'm giving 000webhost.com a try. I just wanted to know if there was anything free before I spent money on a hosting service.
