notebook Presario 700

Can ark linux run on Compaq Presario 700 that is a lapton using AMD Athlon
processor. I did try it but the monitor is black after i issued startx and the machine hangs there i have to power it down and restart.  Also in the installation what does it mean to use frame buffer?

a) This is "Arch Linux" - "Ark Linux" is a different distro
b) Yeah, it will work fine, the problem is that you did not configure X before you tried "startx" - if the screen turns black - try "Ctrl+Alt+Backspace" to kill X... or "Ctrl+C" - you need to check you X log file and the output of X to make sure it's all configured right - check the wiki for X setup and you can post any errors you get in the forums and we should be able to help...
