Hi,
After I had installed Arch, I installed xf86-video-intel, ran HAL and started X. Everything worked fine.
So, I assumed my graphics were working perfectly.
However, lshw shows "unclaimed" for my Intel 82G33/G31 Graphics Controller.
How would I solve this?
Thanks,
Tom

But doesn't UNCLAIMED mean that no specific support for it has been loaded or that lshw has been unable to identify the driver? Do you actually have a problem with your graphics card?

This may also be a bug in lshw. Refer to

No, I do not have a problem with my graphics chipset. However, I do find it strange it shows "unclaimed".
Also, hwd -s shows it uses "xf86-video-vesa", while this package is not installed.
But it's probably a bug like you pointed out .

If you are using an Intel card, may I suggest you configure kernel mode setting according to the wiki?

Its really an improvement on my laptop and it works nicely with the xorg-server 1.7.

Thanks for your suggestion.
Well, what sort of improvements? The only thing I've noticed so far is that my TTY1, TTY2, ... are shown with a decent resolution.
Edit: and faster "zapping".

Those are pretty big improvements, in my opinion. Others include DRI2 support, faster 2D and 3D, and the ability for the kernel to write important stuff to your screen even when running X (apparently).

Besides the improved resolution, I found that everything is a bit snappier and the started desktop consumes less memory (XFCE). My guess is this is because there is no more need to switch from framebuffer mode.

Okay, thanks. I'll play with it.
Assuming this is a lshw-bug, I'll put this thread to solved, shall I?
