How do you search for numbers?

After seeing yet another "Should I install a 32 or a 64 bit system?" thread I wanted to see how many threads there were with 32 and 64 in the title. After trying "32 AND 64", "64", and "x64", it seems that pure numbers are ignored by the search function, which told me I had to enter at least one keyword for all but "x86", which worked correctly.

... whence the question in the subject line.

Re: How do you search for numbers?

I thought anything with less than three or four characters always failed on this forum...  anyway, google with "site=bbs.archlinux.org" will get you there.

Re: How do you search for numbers?

Thanks for the reply.

3-digit numbers seems to work. I would argue that "You have to enter at least one keyword and/or an author to search for." is not at all the same as "Keywords must be at least 3 characters long.", which would still be overly restrictive when using boolean operators in the search.

Is this a built-in limitation of FluxBB or just lazy coding on Arch's side? Google just shouldn't be better at searching the forum than the forum itself.

*edit*
As in, is it worth opening a ticket on the bug tracker?

Re: How do you search for numbers?

Arch only does minor branding to the forum.  Bugs should go to fluxbb.

I think it is because searches less the three characters are too general and may return too many results, which would force the server to do more. Most forums have a minimum character requirement.

I understand that but when you use boolean operators the effective number of characters increases. "32 AND 64" should count as more than 2 characters.

Anyway, this isn't an issue for me. I just wanted to see how difficult it actually was to do a search for 32vs64 threads considering how many people fail at it. I'm not bothered enough to create yet another account to report this to FluxBB.

So, Google 1 - FluxBB 0

Re: How do you search for numbers?

I've often found myself missing a forum search that can find code, /path/names/and/.dotfiles and stuff like that. Might be totally impractical though...
