Your first step should always be to check the forumns or wiki in case there is one.  I applogize if you have already done this.

If you're using oss instead of alsa check out this link on the arch forumns, or search the forumns for tuxguitar and oss.

I've been having other problems with tuxguitar and solfege the past month.  I was able to get Solfege working, but I wound up reinstalling a two month old partition image and blacklisting tuxguitar in pacman.conf.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound in Tuxguitar or Guitar-Pro

I did a lot of searching before posting here. The last thing I tried was installing timidity and running timidity -iA -Os and then selecting the timidity output in tuxguitar (and guitar-pro) through wine.
I am still facing the same issue, no sound.

P.S. I am using Alsa.

Re: [SOLVED] No sound in Tuxguitar or Guitar-Pro

I tried playing a midi file through timidity, and again, heard no sounds. This was the output:

$ timidity /home/devadittya/random.mid
Requested buffer size 32768, fragment size 8192
ALSA pcm 'default' set buffer size 30104, period size 3760 bytes
Playing /home/devadittya/random.mid
MIDI file: /home/devadittya/random.mid
Format: 1 Tracks: 2 Divisions: 480
Sequence:
Track name: Track 1
No instrument mapped to tone bank 0, program 24 - this instrument will not be heard
No pre-resampling cache hit
Last 1 MIDI events are ignored
Playing time: ~10 seconds
Notes cut: 0
Notes lost totally: 0

I just figured that I need to install soundfonts. Sorry for being such a n00b.
EDIT: I installed soundfonts yesterday, and everything seems to be working fine through timidity.
