kernel panic? keyboard lights flashing?

what does it mean when your screen is blank and the lights on your keyboard(numlock, scrolllock, capslock) are all flashing on and off?  and the only thing that you can do is turn off you're machine.

is this a kernel panic?  how can i make it not do this? (it's only happened twice in the span of a month or two)

Re: kernel panic? keyboard lights flashing?

Yep, it's a genuine kernel panic. And after one you should look into your logs to see the culprit in order to find a solution.
