[solved]xfce4 giving error on start

I have only minimal linux experience, so excuse me I ask anything obvious wink

Here's where I am right now:

I've been following the beginners wiki guide very closely, and after 3 or 4 vm install tries of having no idea what I was doing, I managed to finally get to the point where I'd be able to install a DE. Not knowing any of them, I went with xfce4 because it was mentioned first. I did the basic install, then booted it up and it worked fine. I then went and installed the xfce4 "goodies". Now whenever I try and start xfce4, I get the following error message.

xfce4error.jpg

I'm pretty sure I've installed dbus, so I don't think its that.

In the post script for x there are also 4 errors.

no ssh-agent
invalid XDG_CACHE_HOME directory '/root/.cache'
invalid XDG_DATA_HOME directory '/root/.local/share'
invalid XDG_CONFIG_HOME directory '/root/.config/

At this point all I really want is to be able to reliably boot into a DE, so any help would be much appreciated.

It looks like you're trying to run xfce as root.  You might have better luck if you tried running it as your normal user.
