Updates and Discussion

Updates-
Arch Home: Update Beginner's Guide to Beginners' Guide

ArchWiki Main Page: Update Arch vs Others to Arch Compared To Other Distros ;

Update Common Apps to Common Applications ;

Update Lightweight Software to Lightweight Applications ;

Link Reinstalling GRUB to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRU … stallation and keep the text the same ;

Arch Development > Community Projects should link to http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Get … y_Projects but I'm not sure what the text should be, it should probably be Getting Involved though

Discussion-
I want to move (rename) Arch Compared To Other Distros to Arch Compared To Other Distributions as it's easier to understand and proper. I think Linux should be in there somewhere but it might also be implied. Any language fiends that can weigh in on this?
Talk:Common Applications Even though the timestamp on my message is new, I just cleaned up the page and updated my message. This would be a pretty big update if it went through well so I want to make sure everyone gets information on this and a say.

Re: Updates and Discussion

Regarding "Arch Compared To Other Distributions"; keep in mind that the BSDs are discussed, so adding "Linux" is probably unnecessary.

Also on the main page, "WikiTodo" and "Priority Todo" both now redirect to "Getting Involved#Wiki"; the main page should be updated to reflect this change.

"Common Applications": updating the template will not be all too difficult; I simply need to remove the formatting around the application name. Then, people can supply whatever they please: an ArchWiki link, a Wikipedia link, or simply text. (On that note; I've gone and made the appropriate change to the template before posting.)

I was on the fence: I saw the broken links as more of a wish list. After making the change, though, I agree it is an improvement. I still want to keep the home page separate (i.e. you see the full URL); I believe this aids readability.

Updates-
Arch Home: Update Beginner's Guide to Beginners' Guide ; Who has website permissions to do this?

ArchWiki Main Page: Update Arch Compared To Other Distros to Arch Compared To Other Distributions ; Sorry for the work Misfit!

I don't know why you didn't make the other changes, it would be informative if you left a reason.

Discussion-
Thanks pointone, I don't want to break the Wikipedia template so I need some help/information on how to have the Wikipedia link but not the Wikipedia text. It would break the App template. I'm also going to be using the description used in the package information to keep things standard.

Re: Updates and Discussion

After some poking around and looking at talk pages and trying things out. I came up with some beautiful wiki code. I take the cake with this one. just take the code here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/User:Keiichi and put it in the Main Page. It fixes a bunch of issues and while I was looking for anything i could fix I fixed a few more pages here and there. the navigation issues also need to be discussed and fixed. I just updated the talk page because I fixed a lot of issues. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Talk:Main_Page It'd be nice if someone contacted one of the people who can fix the small error on the Home page before I have to.

Re: Updates and Discussion

It would be nice if a SysOP moved ArchLinux_User-community_Repository_(AUR) to Arch User Repository (AUR) or at least removed the page protection. There are always sysop locks and protections on the things I want to edit the most. It's just a bunch of minor things like spelling and text and placement and what not but it really bugs me. It's much easier to contribute to this community than it is with others but that's just my feedback on contribution. Maybe I should file a bug report?

Helping out on the wiki is always appreciated, but if it's notoriety you're looking for, just remember; you are surrounded by a community of volunteers who have contributed countless unpaid hours of effort to this distribution and F/OSS as a whole.
Perhaps you should be thanking the community before asking for praise (to use your word from a wiki edit) or credit..

Some of the protected pages were locked due to irresponsible editing by you, yourself..such as the Beginners' Guide (including the loss of the edit and page-hit history). Many of your edits (and you are making an alarming amount of them) are lateral changes which are not improving much of anything. Please slow down and think before doing any more damage. Thanks.

Re: Updates and Discussion

Maybe I should have clarified that 90% of the time I am joking. I'm not actually that conceited. tongue That was the only thing I messed up as far as I know, and it could have happened to anyone I tell ya. I think a good way to solve it would be to add one of you wiki sysops to my instant messenger contacts as I never see you guys in IRC and I don't go on mailing lists.

Re: Updates and Discussion

I notice you didn't use most of the changes I made and put up on my userpage. Why is that? Was there something wrong with my changes?
