kde plasma-desktop cpu

I've a problem with plasma-desktop process (I see that I'm not the only one). The process turns crazy and it stays at 30% cpu usage forever. I've see that if I stop hal (/etc/rc.d/hal stop) all it seems to be ok but then I don't have the automount feature.

Re: kde plasma-desktop cpu

I suppose this could be related to the drive polling issue some were having with HAL awhile back. I think HAL continuously polls optical drives to see if any disc has been inserted. Try looking in the wiki for instructions on how to disable this functionality and see if that helps.

Re: kde plasma-desktop cpu

Thanks. I'm trying adding this to rc.local:

hal-disable-polling --device /dev/cdrom

It seems to work.
