update broke x, again

today i just updated my eee pc, which has left me without functioning xserver .

if i try to startx then i get an error saying

"keyboard initilization failed . this could be a missing or incorrect setup of xkeyboard-config"

recently (last 6 months or so), every update i have done has broke something.

any way to fix this,

Re: update broke x, again

Clear some space, look in /var/log/pacman.log to see what packages were updated, and pacman -Sf all of them.

Re: update broke x, again

thats not good, after installing arch on my eee i toook some advice from eeeuser and move /var/log to tmpfs to reduce writes to the ssd, so after rebootign the log is long gone.

oh well lesson learned, gues i will have to do a reinstall llool

i still cant belive that pacman didnt error out, or give me an update failed mesage or somthing, i dont know why it just made a bunch of lib files 0bytes in size

Re: update broke x, again

The point of swapping out /var stuff to RAM is to minimise writes indeed, but you should put a script in place that saves the contents of /var somewhere before shutting down and have it unpacked to RAM during boot.
