Adding new QT themes, is it possible??

Hey,

Is it possible to install new Qt themes and then choose them in 'qtconfig' so that all qt applications will use it??

The problem is that the default themes(CDE, Windows, SGI, Platinum, Motif, Motif-plus) are plain ugly and it seems that there's no way to add new themes to the default collection.

I've tried many things... I have 'kde-libs', 'kde-base' and even 'kdeartwork' installed, but no matter what I do,'qtconfig' still has the same old themes. What's really strange is that kde apps like kmail, k3b, konqueror etc.. use beautiful themes like keramik or plastik, but when I launch normal Qt app like 'psi' or 'valknut' they still use the 'Platinum' theme, which isn't so nice at all.

So if anyone knows how to change the look of those non-kde apps(if it's possible at all), please share the information with us non-kde users wanting to make their qt programs look pretty. big_smile

Eh? Try Plastik, if you want an immediate solution. It doesn't look great IMO, but it's good enough.

If you want to install a QT theme not in the Arch repos, download and unzip the tarball, cd into the directory, and compile it as you would anything else. big_smile

I'm not using Kde. That's the whole trick. I'm using fvwm-crystal. Can I still use those qt themes??

Yeah, use KDE's control center. lol

(Not sure if it's accessible directly in fvwm-crystal... Maybe try "kcontrol" from a terminal?)

Tried that one. Still no go. I guess it's not possible then. I've asked many people but none of them could really help me in that matter. Anyway, thanks for trying pal.  8)

Wait... Does the Control Center crash, or is "kcontrol" just not the right command? Do you get some sort of error? Are you doing this as normal user or as root?

Re: Adding new QT themes, is it possible??

No. Kcontrol works like charm, I can select whatever theme I like and indeed kde applications will use it, but as far as non-kde apps are concerned, there's no way to force them to use anything different from Platinum and the like.

Anyway, thanks again for the persistence in trying to help in a hopeless situation. Cheers mate. smile

If you want Plastik for GTK2 / Qt apps (psi), install metatheme. I dont think keramik is supported though.

root : pacman -S metatheme
user : metatheme-install
user : mt-config

# pacman -Sy gtk-qt-engine

If will install a new KDE Control Center module and you'll be able to use the same QT theme on GTK apps also. Works really well here.

(I don't know how you can use GTK themes on QT apps though (the reverse).
