I think I'm doing something wrong.

2094 frames in 5.0 seconds = 418.507 FPS
2074 frames in 5.0 seconds = 414.776 FPS
2092 frames in 5.0 seconds = 418.362 FPS
2072 frames in 5.0 seconds = 414.389 FPS
2089 frames in 5.0 seconds = 417.769 FPS

AGP NVidia BFG 6800 OC, AMD Athlon 64 3700+ with 1 GB RAM.

I'm quite curious about how I can get such high numbers when my desktop is no where near the highest spec here... Maybe I just built my system better

Maybe (!) it's because "glxgears is not a benchmark", just an indication wich may, and may not, be very exact.

with a
VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44A [GeForce 6200] (rev a1)

I'm not a game player so it doesn't matter that it is slow but I thought that this card should do better than this. I'm using the standard beyond drivers.

Ah, I see what my problem was.  I had folding@home running in the background; I didn't even think that would affect my results.

50993 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10198.060 FPS
50838 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10167.577 FPS
50558 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10111.544 FPS
50943 frames in 5.0 seconds = 10188.600 FPS
