Is there anything like mpd for video?

xbmc is bugging me. I like boxee, but decided I don't want to broadcast to the world what I'm currently watching/stealing. I don't really care about all the metadata stuff. I just need a way to start movies from my ipod touch (app or webpage). Maybe just a really simple webserver that goes "mplayer filename" when I click on a link.

hrm...

It could probably play in framebuffer instead of X... wow

of course there are some alternatives for xmbc for example
mythtv: http://www.mythtv.org/
moovida: http://www.moovida.com/
or here EMC just use the framebuffer: http://sourceforge.net/projects/e-mc/

just go on and try out :-)

I don't know about the other two options above, but MythTV in the .21-fixes or .22 have support for vdpau. Although the Arch binary has to be rebuilt with --enable-vdpau to turn it on.

I was thinking of making my own mpd like video browser with a nice curses client written in python, that would be really nice smile

If they get VDPAU working I'm stoked.
