50% cpu usage in firefox

when i close firefox my cpu usage shoots up to 50% and stays there. i cannot open another instance of firefox either.
the only way to stop this is to kill the firefox-bin process which remains active.
is there any way to stop this?

can you open firefox in via console and output. then paste what your getting when it closes.

Plugins/extensions are usually the culprit.

do you use gtk-qt-engine? use gtk-kde4 instead, the result is much better and the 50% CPU usage can be caused by a known bug from gtk-qt-engine

i downloaded the gtk-KDE4 engine and that seems to have resolved the problem.
though now firefox looks really bad, is there anyway to get rid of the gtk look in firefox? it doesn't want to take my settings...

when i run firefox in terminal i get this output:

looks to me its looking for your theme engine... Do you know what engine smooth belongs to...  maybe installing that engine would solve that.

well smooth is a gtk engine, which i have installed. i guess firefox just can't find it?
