How to output via SPDIF and LineOut at once, so audio is splitted?

Hello :-)

I apologize for this being a newbie-question (maybe), but I am rather stuck configuring my soundcard and really hope to find help amongst you experts :-)

I want my soundcard to output both via SPDIF and LineOut at the same time (the same sound should be splitted and played on both outputs). Is this even possible? But while SPDIF should output the unencoded stream, LineOut should be transcoded into a plain stereo signal, i.e. if I pass-through a raw 5.1 signal over SPDIF, LineOut should provide the same stream downmixed.
I reckon this has to be done with a cusom .asoundrc but I just don't get into its syntax...Call me lazy but after swiffling over what felt like 1000 different examples, I fear I am going to keep doing this in 10 years still. So I try my luck here :-)

Could you please tell me
a) whether this is possible at all and
b) post an exemplary .asoundrc I only need to adapt to my soundcard or at least point me into the right direction?

I'd really appreciate any help!

Best,
aeon
