Peak dvb card issue (saa7134)

Hey all,

Been trying to get a (Peak) DVB-T card to work, this old slag: http://www.peakhardware.com/products/pr … p?PAID=199

Now I followed the wiki for MythTV instillation, and that worked fine, however I cannot scan any chanels on the card, and i know the aria gets good signal (tested that).

I have set up the correct module options on boot (from what info i managed to find online, finally):

options saa7134 card=78 tuner=54

and recently, as advised by a gentoo wiki, have tried:

modprobe saa7134 card=78 tuner=54 gpio_tracking=1 i2c_scan=1

However, i still get this in my dmesg when i try to load the module (@boot or otherwise)

that output of from the second module options variation, but the first still gives this same result:

tda1004x: found firmware revision ea -- invalid
tda1004x: trying to boot from eeprom

The firmware I have downloaded and "installed" (read mv -ed) to /lib/firmware/

Any suggestions, other than getting the kernel sources and recompiling the module?

xD

Re: Peak dvb card issue (saa7134)

Hmmm, now this is strange.

Now the module seems to oad fine, with a revision code of 20. However, during scanning mythtv shows no lock, and no signal. I have however ruled out the arial as being at fault here, as i have tested it with a small dvb tv, which showed great signal, and no problems.

Furthermore, heres something i get with wine, eerytime i launch anything, even the config utility:

err:alsa:ALSA_CheckSetVolume Could not find 'PCM Playback Volume' element
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on SAA7134, disabling mixer

So the alsa module is loaded and registered, but it cant access the card?

And audacious2 fails to load now for some very strange reason when the saa7134 module is unloaded (seems it ties in to it, and refuses to run without the module):

Failed to load plugin (/usr/lib/audacious/Input/cdaudio-ng.so): libcdio_cdda.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Failed to load plugin (/usr/lib/audacious/Input/musepack.so): libtag.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

ERROR: ALSA: alsa-core.c:107 (alsaplug_mixer_new_for_card): failed to attach to hardware mixer: No such file or directory

The strange thing is that this was not a problem yesterday or the day before.

well, at least the module's loading! (ish)

Re: Peak dvb card issue (saa7134)

As for tuning, the problem seems to be that neither dvb-utils' scan, myth-tv nor kaffeine can lock onto a signal.

Could the be due to the wrong tuner?

Could someone just post a message saying hi, so i dont feel like im writing a personal log? xD

Re: Peak dvb card issue (saa7134)

Hi.
I have the Compro DVB T300 card which uses the saa7134 chip.
The module was working out of the box for this (latest) kernel.
Basically I have just run the dvb-apps or whatever it is called scan utility to find channels.
Having some issues with picking up a few channels but there are numerous complaints on the webs about this cards reception issues.
I am getting a fusion lite dvb card shortly and will see whether this is indeed the case.

Larry.

Ps.
Hi smile

Re: Peak dvb card issue (saa7134)

Hi Larry,

Its been a while since I've visited this thread, as I did not take the tower for my dvb card needs with me to Uni - tv licensing and all that, so it hasn't been at the fore-front of my mind for a while. However, if you can shed any light on this, then that would be fabulous.
