How hard can this be? All I want is to make a bootable usb-stick from an iso-image.
And no - I do not want these fancy guis (ala unetbootin) - surely a combination of syslinux and copy from a loop-mounted iso-image should do it ... I just dont seem to manage to put all the threads together. Wherever I go I see all these weird and wonderful guis that supposedly are the best thing since sliced bread ... sorry but I do not want them!

dd if=/path/to/iso of=/dev/<USB Drive>
??
Never tried it myself, but apparently it works.

@deej,
Been there, done that - no go!
[edit] Not strictly true - eg. mandriva iso's allows you to do that ...
@tomk,
Thank you! I'll digest them a bit more when I get home ...
Especially the one on grml looks promising!
(and yes - I _will_ mark the thread as solved once I have ascertained that it does infact work ...)
*lol* Is there another grml fan around? grml is my all-time favourite (until the 2009.10-version which uses grub2)

Not all isos can be used on USB sticks.

Go here: http://moblin.org/documentation/test-dr … live-image
and look at: Byte-copy the image to a USB drive or burn to CD

@ takedown
That's what dd does, but they use hybrid iso image, Archlinux does not atm (probably the next "release" will).

@karol,
Thanks karol - that link was interesting!
Obviously - there's more to the problem than meets the eye - I really thought it would be a breeze, just a li'l matter of copying files from the iso-image and play around with syslinux a little bit ...

@ perbh
tomk provided excellent links, you can use them. Last time it didn't work for me it was because of the USB-HDD v. USB-ZIP issue (but I didn't fix it and the guy who did said he doesn't remember what magic worked).
