Serious problem on USB "hotplug"

I recently installed ArchLinux by the official guide and I have the default configuration for kernel and udev rules.

This is what I get: if I boot arch with my usb mouse or usb stick already plugged they work correctly, but if I "hot-plug" them they aren't recognized and I get some messagges like this,(even if in some case I can "hot-plug" my usb stick!):

[...]
usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
usb 1-1: device not accepting address 2, error -110
usb 1-1: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2

This is the complete dmesg log:

Re: Serious problem on USB "hotplug"

So I am not the only one who has such a problem...

In my case even the sdb devices did not show up (as they used to before). May it be some kernel issue? I did a kernel upgrade to 2.26.6-3, so it's not a problem that some encountered with 2.26-6-2...

Also - when booting with my Wacom tablet it works perfectly, bot when I hotplug it, the it is incorrectly recognised, and behaves more like a mouse (also I cannot change it's behaviour by wacomcpl)

Re: Serious problem on USB "hotplug"

Arch doesn't use hotplug, it uses udev.  Maybe /etc/udev/readme-udev-arch.txt will give some hints.

Re: Serious problem on USB "hotplug"

True, sorry for my english then - I meant that I plug it when I am logged into system.

I'll try to find a solution there (I am looking for it for a week, without a result hmm). If I did not succeed, Ill ask again with more precise data smile. Thanks!

Re: Serious problem on USB "hotplug"

The problem for me seems to be solved with the last kernel upgrade: kernel26-2.6.26.3-1

Re: Serious problem on USB "hotplug"

I resume this thread because the problem is not really solved...

I have noticed that unloading uhci-hcd module and the reloading it the mouse works! smile I also noticed that I have the ehci-hcd module loaded and I believe that it is useless because uhci-hcd and ehci-hcd are mutually exclusive.

How can I avoid at boot time the loading of ehci-hcd module?

Re: Serious problem on USB "hotplug"

Hi, i have the same problem here. I recently installed arch on my msi wind netbook, how it was described on wiki. System is running fine (i still have some issues left), but i can't hot-plug ANY USB device, mice, flashdrive..

If i plug it before i turn pc on, they are detected. But if i remount the plug, it doesn't work hmm

I DON"T use any xorg.conf file, since i couldn't configure it properly

Here's my rc.conf:

Adding 996020k swap on /dev/sda2. Priority:-1 extents:1 across:996020k

OK, i solved that one

I had to re-setup deamons properly in rc.conf
before

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal !network !netfs dbus bluetooth crond alsa wicd kdm)

after

DAEMONS=(syslog-ng hal !network !netfs bluetooth crond alsa wicd kdm)

I removed dbus, since it is automatically loaded by hal anyway. Now hot-pluging devices works. smile
