What's the default console font?

And what size/weight is it? I used to think this font was ugly and unfriendly, but I've grown more attached to it over time. I would also like to use this same font in X, as my urxvt/xterm default font. Is this possible?

Re: What's the default console font?

I tried various combinations of Fixed, and I think that's the font, but the closest I got was size 15 bold. The problem is it's still too wide and some of the glyphs are off. I remember reading about the default font in Windows Powershell and most Linux Consoles on Wikipedia, but I can't remember what it said sad

If only I knew! There might even be a truetype version floating around the net.

Re: What's the default console font?

Aha! The font is actually "Terminal" 8x12. I am just having some trouble getting it to work with urxvt. This is the X font line whatever:
-dec-terminal-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

It looks right in xfontsel, just a bit smaller than the actual console font. The problem is when I put this in .Xdefaults under "URxvt.font:", URxvt refuses to start because it cannot find the font (I see those messages once I quit X). How can I get URxvt to use 8x12 as the default font?

Re: What's the default console font?

you may want t try this font for urxvt:
URxvt.font:             xft:mono:pixelsize=16:antialias=false
URxvt.boldFont:         xft:mono:bold:pixelsize=16:antialias=false

I use this without any issues, just change the pixel size of course

Re: What's the default console font?

*bump*

anyone figured this out yet? i noticed that on high resolutions (kms) the default font looks really nice in the shell, so i'd be interested in trying it out in X. I'm having the same problem as Allamgir though, i can't seem to get it to work yet. or is it impossible anyway to use (compressed?) console fonts under x?
