Hi,
recently I tried to play Duke Nukem 3D, so I installed eduke32 from AUR. Everything worked fine but then I read about the Hi-Res Texture Pack. After downloading and installing the game menu looks like this:
O_O
I don't know much about this UXA, KMS, whatelse things so I hope any of you guys knows what is going on. Never had problems with the graphics card before (though I am not really a "gamer"). I have xf86-video-intel installed, other games like TeeWorlds or jDoom work. glxgears also works.
lspci |grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
Any ideas?
Thx in advance!

With respect to kernel mode setting (KMS) you may want to look into the wiki
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Int … Setting.29
I have an Intel card too and my experience is that KMS is necessary for the card to work properly with the new xorg-server 1.7 and kernel 2.6.31. I choose the early start method, were "i915.modeset=1" is added to the kernel line and "intel_agp i915" to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf (don't forget to "mkinitcpio -p kernel26" after that) and it works really nice.
The good thing with that method is that it is easily disabled, even on the boot prompt, by setting "i915.modeset=0".

Thanks, I've read about it but I was not aware that this is needed for playing (OpenGL?) games. I'll give it a try.
EDIT: Enabled KMS but the problem remains.

Other ideas?
AstroMenace isn't working, too. I just get a blank screen but it worked some months ago....
TeeWorlds and Hedgewars are running!?
I just don't know where to look at...:/

So I renamed my xorg.conf. I am using KMS right now with no xorg.conf and it still is not working.
glxgears is running and when is close the window with the cogwheels I get:
glxgears
XIO: fatal IO error 22 (Invalid argument) on X server ":0.0"
after 5562 requests (5559 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
glxinfo |grep "direct rendering"
direct rendering: Yes
I found threads in other forums but all these infos seem to be deprecated (http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_GMA_X4500HD#Driver_status for example). Am I the only one with this problem?
