Messy Image when scrolling something

the problem is very annoying.. basically everytime I scroll down or up a webpage, emesene contacts.. whatever.. everything I scroll I get a messy image, because part of it gets 'cuted'..

I'll leave a printscreen so you can understand what I'm saying..

sdasdada.jpg

sdasdaf.jpg

as you can see the text is cuted..

at first it was ok, but now I'm getting a bit upset with this problem:X

Best regards

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

Some information about your graphics card and the graphics driver you use could be helpful. Did that problem always exist or just startd recently?

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

I've got the same issue and it started when I upgraded my system (amd64).

My card: ATI Technologies Inc RS780M/RS780MN [Radeon HD 3200 Graphics] using it with radeonhd driver.

Please anybody knows something about it cause it's really annoying.

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

I am having the same issue but I don't have my configs in front of me.  I have Xeon dual core, nvidia and use testing repository.  My problem is recent and all was okay until I ran an update.  Problem occurs with Firefox only as far as I can tell.

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

so if marxav has nvidia, then it isnt about the radeonhd driver....

I have this problem in every gtk app I guess...

does any of you run xrandr? I have amd64 by the way..

--EDIT:

the best way to solve this is making some kind of brainstorm about stuff we use and have in commun..

best regards

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

I don't use xrandr, but this issue started for me when I updated my system (as marxav) and by the time I was checking out kde, I thought it was some sort of trouble with kde so I switched back to gnome and the problem was still there. I think it's more related to X rather than cards drivers or a piece of software.

Any ideas, hints, hunches.... something???

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

What about kernel mode setting? It is enabled by default with kernel 2.6.31 and it isn't working on my ATI card, even if I set it up according to the wiki.

I have the mobile radeon HD 3650 using the fglrx driver and don't have any issues with scrolling.

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

I'm running the normal kernel 2.6.30 from repos. Nothing fancy.

I dont have KMS activated because it was causing me some troubles.. does anyone that has this scrolling problem have KMS disabled too?

I had this problem a few times, but only under heavy load. Is the driver working correctly? And what desktop you are using?

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

well I looks like it was KMS.

I had to disable it some time ago because it was causing me some problems, but as it seems that was happening because I didnt configure it.. I followed the wiki for ATi and KMS is working well now, and it seems that I dont have the scroll problem anymore..

best regards

-------
EDIT:

still having problem with KMS, so I had to disable it.. however there are two ways of doing it in the wiki.. adding "radeon.modeset=0" or "nomodset" to the kernel append line in the grub menu.lst.. I used to have to be using the nomodset, but now I'm using the radeon.modeset=0 to disable KMS.. for now it seems that the scroll problem is gone.

I can definitely say that this problem is KMS related.

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

Same problem here with a radeonhd2400 using the xf86-video-ati driver from the repos (and also the latest from git). I have kms disabled because it doesn't work yet with my card.

I'm not sure exactly when this problem started because I seldom have this problem. I suspect it started happening after one of the last xorg updates but not 100% sure.

I've also experienced the mouse getting stuck inside the area of one window and also mouse pointer corruption, but all this only when using some programs inside a chroot with centos 4 files.

The scroll problem however happens sometimes, one quick fix is to collapse the window (only show the title bar) and make it show up again.

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

I thought the problem was gone but it isnt... however with the KMS enabled I guess it is ok, but I just cant enable it because it crashes my X sometimes(shutting down, ctrl+alt+Fx, etc).

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

I have the same problem on my machine, KMS disabled, running radeonhd on an RS780 chipset.  my best guess is that it is a bug with the radeon drivers (radeonhd and ati) the problem exists with kernels 2.6.30 and 2.6.31 on my machine.

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

Same here:
Kernel 2.6.31
Ati Chipset RV770
KMS disabled
occurs with both ati and radeonhd driver

does anybody also experience stuck keys (endless key-repeating until you press another key)?

I guess we all have to wait until the KMS problem is gone s we can enable it again..

I didnt experienced that stuck keys problem by the way..

Re: Messy Image when scrolling something

great news.  I've been testing out 2.6.32 with KMS enabled and the problem has gone away.
so be patient and wait a while for the new kernel or be bold and grab it from testing.
