kde4.3 kscd won't play cd
When I put cd in drive and click on KSCD I get message that Aureal-vortex.adb is not functioning but cd is id'd and track info shows. Going to Computer>Sytem settings>Multimedia>Music>output Device Pref>
Aureal Vortex au8830(adb)>sound check gives test tones. When I use VLC the cd plays fine.
In Ubuntu,Suse and Mandrive and CentOS(that use gnome) the cdplay program works flawlessly. To be fair in the previously installed kde2.4.2(kdemod) kscd also would not play cds but would show track info and eject.
Has anyone been successful in getting KSCD to play cds and how?Thanx:)

"would not play cds" -> what does it mean exactly, what's the exact error messages ? Did you try to reinstall it, and kde too ? Is there problem with it in another wm/de too ?

I mean if I either get "no disk in drive message" or kscd shows title of cd and tracks but won't play it when I click play button/icon. Slackware 10-12 had no problem playing cd with kscd. Suse11.1 kde4.2 version's kscd wouldn't play cd either. It didn't work in Arch kde2.4.2 or kdemod version either.Google search wasn't helpful.

I have the same problem - KsCD is started when a music CD is inserted, but it will NOT play anything.
However, VLC can do it!

FWIW, amarok and kaffeine can play audio cds too.
