Issues Recording dual layer DVDs

Hi!
I have a ATA dvd+-rw unit (quite new actually, less than 1 month since i purchased it)
I am experiencing some issues when recording any dual layer DVD (I didnt try to record any single layer still)
Then thing is: I use k3b plus growisofs, and i specify the minimum speed the unit can reach, which is 2.4x, but once it starts recording, the max speed i reach is 0.7x.... can u imagine it?? Evrytime i record a dual layer dvd (xbox 360 game, btw) i have to wait 3 hours and a half!!!
WHat can i do?

By the way: On windows, with imgburn, i get the speeds properly, so i guess is not anything to do with the unit itself.. more like a software issue......
