ext4 new folder permissions?

Since I installed Arch on my eeepc last year with ext4, sometimes when I create a new directory the permissions are set to 777 (drwxrwxrwx). I think it happens when updating an svn/git repo, as running mkdir manually gives drwxr-xr-x.

I've never been able to identify the problem. It only appears on the eee (with an ssd). Anyone have an idea how I can default back to drwxr-xr-x???
